From India to Myanmar, Iran to Palestine, and Ukraine to Russia, governments persist in shutting down the internet and essential digital communication platforms. These actions are aimed at silencing expression, blocking access to vital information, and concealing heinous crimes against humanity.

2023 has been the worst year ever: 154 shutdowns occurred in 39 countries.

Even though countries like Belgium recorded an electoral turnout of 90 per cent, more than half the member states recorded a majority of abstentions in the last European elections.

Abstention has become the majority choice since 1999. A growing phenomenon, which is not good for the health of the European Union.

Here is our first English Data Song! Sheldons.studio's data songs are catchy tunes that bring attention to issues and projects we have at โค๏ธ

More than 90% of the streets named after individuals are dedicated to white men. Where did all the other inhabitants of Europe end up? The lack of diversity in toponymy speaks volumes about our past and contributes to shaping Europeโ€™s present and future.

The EU Sanctions tracker we designed is finally online! It is a monitoring tool to explore the 4695 individuals and entities, 35 regimes, and 79 nationalities characterising the travel ban and freeze asset sanctions enacted by the EU in the past 25 years. A mobile-responsive, user-friendly interface, with advanced functionalities to trace the unique histories of the different sanction regimes in place.

Translate, relate, and enable our three critical points for designing with data meaningfully. We talk about it in Nightingale, the Data Visualization Society magazine ๐Ÿ™Œ. https://nightingaledvs.com/reimagine-street-name-diversity/
Using Data to Reimagine Street Name Diversity in Europe

Across 145,933 streets in 30 major European cities and 17 different countries, our team explores who is included and who is excluded.
