If you're into tech, Mastodon and its actual implementation and all the details about it are a great opportunity to learn about details on scale problems and nice little tricks.

Would definitely recommend giving hosting a go if you have time and are interesting in learning more.

Who knows, you might even end up wanting to contribute?

@alk @fiaxhs @Skunnyk j'aime bien 😊

Quoi ? Mais pourquoi ?

@Skunnyk @fiaxhs fronchemon, chuicho

Hey, friends: If you're still on mastodon.social or mastodon.online, you're about to lose track of weirder.earth, and other servers to follow soon. It's for the safety of our comrades: this is the quieter, kinder part of the fedi where we walk away from instances that can't or don't control harassers.

I know a lot of you still on mastodon.social and .online are newcomers who landed there because so many other instances have closed to new accounts. Please take this time to explore the fediverse and find somewhere with more reliable moderation. The move-instances tool works pretty well these days!

@fiaxhs for sure. I do agree on the original intent and it has value and makes sparking some discussions easier.

But looking at Twitter the past few days made me realise how most of the qrts are juste people being mean on purpose. It's not all the time, but often enough that it became normal to do it to be part of the platform for real. I have very mixed feelings about it.

In retrospect, quote rt was probably the worst thing that happened to Twitter.

We used to being able to simply RT, and that would usually make people share stuff that interested them or that seemed interesting to them.

But with quote RT, we collectively started quoting twits to mock them for fake internet points. This small change drove a lot of the negativity on the platform and I wish we never get this on @Mastodon itself.

We can't remove negativity, but we can not give it a platform.

@fiaxhs must. Not. Urgh 😬
