@scalzi I'm more bothered by Hulu's price hike. Even with ad-free, prime overall is still about $15/mo, which gets you the free shipping, too, while Hulu is bumping up to ~$20 for ad-free next month.
Hulu is the only service I really feel compelled to cycle my subscription periodically - sub, binge for a couple / few months, then cancel for half a year or so. All their bundles seem like a bad deal, too, or are only available with ads. Disney seemingly really, really would prefer you just accept ads on Hulu and ESPN.
Fingers crossed they lose exclusivity on the tiny few shows I care about and I can just stop using them altogether.
Maaaaan, what a disappointing thread to stumble across not an hour after I was just thinking, "Geeze I've been on Kagi for half a year and I don't miss google a bit! Totally worth the price!"
I'm conflicted; search being good is really important for me both personally and professionally, but...yeah that's a disappointing response. Heck, they could've probably come up with a technical solution like an opt-out or something that would've at least...mitigated, but they just doubled down.
I wish somebody would see this as a chance to swoop in and duplicate Kagi's business model / basic concept but with a bit of "don't be evil" principle mixed in. At least maybe they'd be good for 5-10 years before they turned to the dark side. :P
@colinstu My work and an outside company were hoping to have a contract finalized before Thanksgiving, but the outside company didn't get their revision in until Tuesday.
Shortly after, basically everybody who had to sign off had set their status to Out Of Office + Away while still talking about it in PMs and private / internal-only channels, lol. Next week!
Gidd twitches.

Mixed feelings on all the political news articles today that reference Biden vs Trump's polling numbers.
I don't want to live in a bubble and be caught by surprise in 2024, but at the same time, my confidence in political polling has been rapidly falling over the last few election cycles. Pollsters are failing to figure out new methods to capture the opinions of younger voters, and they know it. Also, those 'younger voters' keep getting older. It's a sizable chunk of the voting population, now, who just don't participate in traditional polling methods.
Polls are a useful data point, but they're a far cry from a representative sample, anymore. I wish there were something better, and I wish reporters stopped treating polls like such a surefire indicator. I know they know better.
Keep thinking about how this post applies to kink fantasies. So many of us want someone to just take us away and push us in exactly all the ways we want to be pushed. But that's not how it works. To get to that level of rapport with someone you need to communicate first.
It's not as sexy but just asking for what you want is way more likely to get you there.
