San Francisco based hobbyist trying to transition from taking snapshots to taking photos. Mostly landscape and architecture, with occasional wildlife or house cat thrown in. User name is aspirational.
July in #SanFrancisco means the hot weather in the Central Valley sucks the fog off the Pacific and into the Bay. If you never leave the City (especially the western side) you may never know that summer is actually warm.

About an hour north of my house, on Mt Tamalpais in Marin County, is a well-documented ridgeline. Car companies have filmed commercials there, and every local landscape photographer has taken photos similar to those below. It's also popular with road cyclists. Saturday night it was equally popular with photographers and high school stoners (there may be a direct line there).

July, hot weather, Saturday night and fog. A great night to be out.

Just back from a vacation in #Copenhagen and #Helsinki. I humbly offer my photos of well-known tourist destinations.

After braving the traffic and hordes last night to take sunset photos I needed a reset and went to Baker Beach this morning at sunrise.

No traffic and no people. Lots of birds, but never when I wanted them in the shot. While the beach faces west the light is still really nice in the morning. Large cargo ships heading out and a cruise ship heading in to the Bay. Beautiful morning in #SanFrancisco.

Heading to #Copenhagen and #Helsinki next week. With jet lag I shouldn't have any problem with morning vs evening. Which is great because I hope to take advantage of the middle-of-the-night golden hour this time of year and also avoid the crowds.

I'm much more of a morning person than evening, so heading to Treasure Island in the #SanFrancisco Bay last night was a major feat. Very much prefer to be out before people are up, on the road and in the scene.

But my instinct was right. A late afternoon low haze we've had for the last few days while the sun was setting and a telephoto made for some nice photos.

All three were taken about the same time looking WNW past Alcatraz to Marin County during the golden hour. I did not change or subdue the color, but did use a filter.

A few photos from the #NoKings March in #SanFrancisco today
High clouds and fog persist in #SanFrancisco this week and so I went looking for small things to photograph. Spent a few hours in Golden Gate Park yesterday.

Made an effort to get above the fog that's been hugging the coast lately. Hiked two miles up a ridge north of the Golden Gate Bridge and was rewarded with a near perfect morning.

Weather forecasts for all of California this weekend include words like "dangerous" and "severe" to describe the heat. So we went to the coast for golden hour. Behold Martin's Beach!

This location is a bit controversial - for the last 10 or so years a local billionaire has been fighting to close off access on principal. He doesn't think the public should access public land through a litigated easement. While it's being fought in court the public can still walk down the road from the highway, or park in the occasionally open $10 lot half way down. The locals we saw this morning were friendly and had no problem with us being there.

Morning light hasn't been very interesting lately, so today I stayed close to home and revisited Treasure Island. The island is in transition - decades old industrial and residential areas are being redeveloped. There is a 20 floor residential tower, and many new condos. The roads are being reconfigured. Treasure Island is within San Francisco but has always felt outside. As long as rising seas don't drown it, these improvements could add a lot of housing and business to the City. Time will tell.
