@mariapopova Thank you so much for this! One thing that stays with me vividly from having seen the eclipse in Winnipeg in 1979 was how at the moment of totality, the roosting, gossiping birds all shut up at once.

Charlie StrossSo, it turns out that when Edward Lear invented the word "Runcible" it had no set meaning and nothing much stuck (except very tenuously, as a synonym for "spork").
I am now racking my brains for a suitable thing in my new space opera to pin "runcible" onto. Maybe the name of whatever they use instead of computers?
