There are goods and services that we should help people attain at the most basic level. Among them are housing, food, healthcare, public transit, and education.
Anyone claiming that progressive politics drives crime is delusional. Poverty, poor educational systems, income inequality, poor health care, and lack of social mobility have only been addressed by progressives. Progressive politics seeks to mitigate those problems, and such efforts are thwarted by conservatives.
Addressing poverty through social services and programs is what the right wants to defund. And those are the things that would work to help fix this.
