Random Masto thought: I see a lot of people try to replace "instance" with different, non-technological metaphors to try to explain it, but honestly, the term I've had the most success with is "server", especially with people used to playing stuff like Minecraft where it's common for people to run their own servers for online multiplayer. I've never read up on the technicals enough to know if this is exactly correct, but.

27 years ago.

On August 25 1991 Linus Torvalds wrote to comp.os.minix:

"I'm doing a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and
professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones."

I don't know when everyone decided light gray text on white backgrounds was the standard uniform of the web, but I'd much rather have garish colors if it means the text is at least legible
