Richard III's emblem the boar, is usually depicted as very fierce, but this kneeler, at the church in Middleham, depicts it as quite cuddly!

Today our members and guests will be treated to a talk about medieval cuisine for everyone who wasn’t nobility. In recent years we’ve learned from Richard’s body about the diet that he would have enjoyed as king, but what about his subjects?
It should be interesting!
Some of our members in Toronto made it to Sonja Drimmer ‘s excellent talk about coins. We heard about a common insult to Henry VI, how Edward IV changed the look,& arguably the meaning of coins during his reign, how coins wore out, the reason for clipping & so much more.It was a delight.
Looking forward to our first meeting of 2025. Sunday Jan 12 & we are pleased to welcome guest speaker Katie Dungate talking on 'He was an Earl, all Wales was his':William Herbert, Earl of Pembroke (c. 1423-1469) and the Yorkists in Wales. Via Zoom as all of our mtgs are.( Image BL Royal MS 18 D II)
For well over 50 years we have put this In Memoriam in The Globe and Mail in memory of the life and death of Richard III
Borrowing an excellent idea from the South Australian Branch of the Richard III Society, we are continuing our celebration of the Society's centenary by running the Ricardian Name Game for our members. They have to find as many Richard related places/items as possible in Canada, and send in proof of its existence.

We had a grand time at our celebration. The menus were based on menus from 1924 and the library books for loan were mostly by Society members past and present. @FiveMinute Medievalist aka Danièle Cybulskie gave an excellent talk on Richard III's books on war and chivalry and how they might have affected him as an adult. Many of our members were seeing each other for the first time since Covid started.
