as I see it, should serve as the starkest and most foreboding indicator of what will eventually happen everywhere if we don't radically accelerate our efforts to fix science: the anti-science movements will weaponize our inaction and use it against us.

If it comes to that, I'm starting to think that we had it coming. We can't say we weren't given a chance. We have had ample opportunity!
