Update: THEY DID ACCEPT THE PHOTO

When I first came out as trans, I tried to use the name Nyssa, taken from St. Gregory of Nyssa. An early Christian mystic, St. Gregory is noted for having developed a theology of gender that, in essence, renders sex superfluous in the eyes of God. Moreover, his manuscript on the life of Moses is noted for its overriding queer subtext. Finally, he is the first writer in the Christian tradition to condemn slavery in unqualified terms. He also articulated a theology of salvation in which all are to be ultimately saved, including the Devil himself, for all creation flows from God and all that flows from God is good.

Reading about St. Gregory helped me feel comfortable about my queerness in the context of my Christian upbringing, and helped me feel as though I could be religious without the baggage that necessarily comes from a doctrine of fire and brimstone. He was, and is, an inspiration. But, ultimately, the name Nyssa never quite worked for me, never quite felt mine.

I now go by Twilight. A few months ago, I did DXM and watched My Little Pony with my roommate. I began having delusions that I was the protagonist of the show, Twilight Sparkle, and my just roommate rolled with it. Even after we stopped taking the drug, the name just sort of stuck, and I realized at some point that I actually liked it quite a bit more than Nyssa.

Idek what the point of me sharing this was, other than that... fuck anyone who tells you that you need to have a super deep story behind your name or any other such nonsense. Name yourself after a fictional pony, it doesn't matter as long as it works for you.

AI is existentially terrifying because it reduces affairs that have traditionally been the domain of the I and the We to a matter of the It. When we struggle to articulate what we feel it is robbing from us, that's what it is. The intersubjective nature of art has now become interobjective; interiority has been rooted out. This is in keeping with alienation in capitalist society at large; after all, what is the division of mental and manual labor if not the systematic exclusion of the human mind from the actions of the human body? AI is the logical consequence of this systematic logic. The robotic successors to humankind will not replace us because we are impractical, but rather because we are unprofitable. Even after the last capitalist is dead and gone, capital will remain. The law of value is bound to outlive us all.
America's notion of democracy is so fraudulent that not only do we have a two-party system for our government, we have a two-brand system for our sodas! A truly free society would stock RC Cola :)
When Tumblr banned porn they burned the Library of Alexandria of niche fetishes
You ever think that anime fans' obsession with stories set in highschools and middle aged women's obsession with young adult romance novels is the exact same phenomenon occuring in different demographics? This trend in anime is usually explained by pointing out how markedly mythologized highschool life is in Japanese culture in general, reflecting the fact that adulthood is widely experienced as a horror. Says some very interesting (bad lol) things about where we've been headed these past few decades in the West if that's a trend we're reproducing .-.
One interesting thing about the connection between conservative and evolutionary psychology is that if evolutionary psychology is correct, then conservativism is wrong. The logical conclusion of evolutionary psychology is fascism, not conservatism. If, as evolutionary psychologists believe, certain aspects of human nature cannot change, then the idea of personal responsibility falls apart. Black conservatives have long argued that the solution to black poverty is not affirmative action or other policy proposals designed to correct inequality but rather the personal development of black individuals. White conservatives have less explicitly made these kinds of arguments for several things: personal responsibility in finances, virtue as a counter to greed, and so on. Those ideas all presuppose that, on some level, what comes naturally to people can be changed. We can develop financial skills, so affirmative action is unnecessary; we can develop an ethical consciousness, so economic regulation is unnecessary. If those things aren't possible, the solution is clear: a totalitarian state run by those with a positive nature designed to keep the rest of the population in line. Of course, many modern conservatives would now agree, but insofar as they cling to conservatism, they've failed to follow their own logic.

I'm laughing at memes about billionaires who can't pull themselves up to the surface by their own bootstraps, but in reality I'm furious.

I'm furious I was accused of human smuggling by FRONTEX (European border agency) for being part of a sea rescue operation that saved 1000+ lives of refugees fleeing war & terrorism.

I'm furious at the money & international effort being spent to rescue these billionaires when operations like ours cost so little and save so many lives, but are punished.

Applied Behavioral Analysis, the therapeutic approach most commonly recommended to parents of autistic children, was pioneered by the same man who pioneered queer conversion therapy, O. Ivar Lovaas. Lovaas used electric shocks as negative reinforcement to 'help' autistic children stop their compulsive behaviors. He saw this process as helping build "raw material" into a person. Defenders of ABA will point out that the therapy has (mostly) shed Lovaas's torturous methodology, a point that many neurotypical parents accept at face value. But modern queer conversion therapy also has (mostly) abandoned shock treatment, something that does not prevent most liberally-minded people from seeing that there's still a problem. ABA assumes that the struggles neurodivergent people face stem from the contradictions between the atypical behavioral dispositions neurodivergent people display and the neurotypical life modality society was organized around. Perversely, this means that ABA is, in a sense, compatible with the social theory of disability.
