At cruising altitude, Vehl's Reach generates its own weather.

Strong thermals from the lower decks shake the city through midday. The two suns cast double shadows. Every object casts two.

By the time the yellow sun sets, the red giant has turned the entire bay indigo.

Then docking hour. Neither sun. The mechanical roar of eight clamps engaging. Darkness.

The orbs begin to rise.

[ARCHIVIST RECORD | VEHL'S REACH | DOCKING HOUR]

Neither sun visible. The city locked to the mountain.

Shadowside releases luminescent gas orbs. They drift upward through every deck. Amber. Green. Pale blue. Rising past the Rim, past the Garden Courts, toward the Spire.

The ritual is older than the current administration.

Skyside calls them atmospheric phenomena.

Shadowside calls them something else entirely.

[ARCHIVIST RECORD | VEHL'S REACH | ON THE NATURE OF BUILDING]
Before the city could rise, someone had to build what nobody would see.

The infrastructure was never celebrated. Never visible from Skyside.
The city rose anyway.

Two suns. A volcano. Several hundred thousand people living in the only breathable altitude on the planet.

The city rises every morning because someone built it to.
Not because someone wished it would.

What is the one thing your author career needs that you have been waiting to build until the book is done?

Discoverability is not optional anymore.
It is infrastructure.

Build it before the book drops.

Shadowside never got credit for keeping the city alive.
They built what Skyside needed. Maintained it. Never stopped.

The city rose every morning anyway.
Not because of hope. Because of them.

The Hugo debate every year: too much fantasy, not enough sci-fi.

The debate nobody is having: how many of these authors have a platform that could survive losing their publisher tomorrow?

The infrastructure of Vehl's Reach was never celebrated.
Never visible from Skyside. Never written about in the civic record.
It just kept the city alive.

Every morning. Without exception.
Systems do not need applause. They need to work.

"I have never once recorded a city that rose on hope alone.
I have recorded several that fell on it."
