Sorry I'm a bit late

Hey book folk OF THE FEDIVERSE

@pluralistic has a new book coming out -- "Red Team Blues", a cryptocurrency anti-finance thriller

He produces does his own ebooks because he refuses to put DRM on 'em, which means Audible won't carry them

So: He's doing a Kickstarter campaign for this one!

I just backed it (got the audio, ebook and hardcover): Go check it out yourself! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/doctorow/red-team-blues-another-audiobook-that-amazon-wont-sell

TIL🧡2/3: Many have said it, I'm going to say it, too: I miss Quote Tweets. I appreciate the thoughtful justification for not implementing them, but also disagree. My ideal would be

a quote tweet that points up 😍☝️
rather than Twitter's pointing down πŸ€¬πŸ‘‡

because I think sometimes it's really important to contextualize or emphasize why you're boosting someone's post.

Automobiles are very erratic weapons: They kill about as many people a year here as guns; but guns are designed to kill, whereas automobiles are designed not to, yet still end up about as dangerous, given how people use them. We have more guns than automobiles (we have more guns than people), but automobiles & guns are continually neck & neck, in annual death count... & that's only counting fatalities *directly* attributable to driving VS shooting. ➑️ An automobile is more deadly than a gun.
@futureidentity (Waiting for the 2/2 to drop, but I'm new here & impatient...) I agree that actual transactions always involve "I trust {x} to do {y}", but we were a good ways toward truly decentralized systems, when speculators got involved in directing the science & a few decades later we're all neck deep in _layers_ of trust that begin to feel... foolhardy? I often feel we were better off using "computing" devices that did one task using locally sourced ICs... Services degrade over time.
