@KalineBillington “You owe me nothing, Kaline. Only to get well as soon as you can. Locke is getting married and you’ve been asked to walk her down the aisle.”

@KalineBillington At first, Lydia is hesitant to look her wife in the eye. But after a deep breath, the Duchess gains some courage.

"Do you remember when I went out to meet with Death? Well… That wasn't just a simple chat. I went to her to save your life. She was going to send a Reaper to collect your soul. But I struck a deal with the Woman in Black, Kallie. I… I gave up my powers so that you would live."

“Kaline, I need to talk to you.” @KalineBillington

By this time 20 years in the future, Death has gone through half a dozen faces. Her current one is unknown to Lydia. But when the Duchess returns to the palace, @KalineBillington is up and around, albeit with a walker and with the physical guidance of a nurse.

“Kallie! You’re up! How do you feel, my love?”

I’ve had a vision. Not of death, at least not whole death. But it’s going to happen very soon.
@KalineBillington “I love you, Kallie, always and forever. Save your strength. Let Dr. Verrick’s serum work.” Lydia strokes her wife’s hair and leans down to kiss her forehead. “I’ll return in a little while. I’ve a meeting with Death.”

@KalineBillington “What is it, love? I’m listening.”

Lydia has had two things on her mind lately: her wife’s recovery and her sister’s illness. But now that one seems to be taking a turn for the better, the weight of these things has lifted a bit.

@KalineBillington Lydia runs up to her wife’s bedside as fast as her bare feet can carry her. She takes Kaline’s hand in her own and squeezes it tight. Tears trickle down her cheeks and she sniffles. The Duchess has been crying herself to sleep most nights, but this is a very welcome moment.

“Kallie! I’m here, love!”

@KalineBillington When Lydia next visits her wife, it is December 3rd, her birthday. She caresses her unconscious spouse's cheek as a tear falls down her own.

"I need you, Kaline... I can't do this on my own..."
