Hoo boy, I'm 72 and I've been through a lot of political iterations.

Raised a Democrat. Somewhere in my late 20s I became very libertarian(!). Then a "Reagan Democrat" (I'm so very sorry).

Damage to the environment turned me into a Green for a while, then I registered as a Democrat again so I could vote in Pennsylvania primaries.

Became a vegetarian in 1989; learning about factory farming broke something in me, made me value all life.

Now I'm just as left as can be.

Bristolians' help needed!

Bit of a longshot perhaps, but my daughter is off to Bristol in September to study for the SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination) and will be in need of accommodation.

She's studious, clean and tidy, sociable but not a habitual party animal. Total ally, but is in her early 20s and has all the absolute certainty about societal ills which comes with that.

She will pay her rent, on time, and pull her weight. She won't cover her stuff with name labels or leave passive-aggressive notes on the fridge.

If anybody has any insights into the (slightly more mature) student accommodation in Brizzle, a room to rent or even an offspring in a similar position, with whom to join forces, please drop me a message.

BOOSTS TREMENDOUSLY APPRECIATED!

If you are trans, the GOP wants to take away your rights

If you are queer, the GOP wants to take away your rights

If you are black, latino or an immigrant, the GOP wants to take away your rights

If you are neurodivergent or physically disabled, the GOP wants to take away your rights

If you are a woman, the GOP wants to take away your rights

If we all stand together they will fail

Wow. Lenacapavir, a twice-yearly shot that prevents HIV spread was just approved by the FDA.

The problem? Due to government cuts to Medicaid, PEPFAR, and Global Fund, it's unlikely this game-changing drug will reach the many people who need it most in the US and globally.

"The antidote to hate isn’t silence or appeasement. It’s not cowardice or cynicism. It’s courage, as we saw this past weekend during the No Kings Day protests.

"It’s the courage to speak out, even when your voice shakes. It’s the courage to stand with your neighbors, especially the most vulnerable. It’s the courage to vote, to organize, to protest, and to tell the truth about the haters, even when the truth is unpopular and the haters threaten you."

The Politics of Hate: How Trump Weaponized Our Darkest Instincts

Why America must confront the corrosive force that Trump is trying to use to tear us apart...

Yes, They’re Going After Medicare Too

A wonky change in Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill would hammer some of the very people Republicans insist they are protecting.

The Bulwark

"The MAGA reverse-Robin-Hood scheme would, among other things, remove 11 Million people from Medicaid, 5 Million from the Affordable Care Act exchanges, slash SNAP by more than $700M, “strip 4.5 million children who are U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents of eligibility for the Child Tax Credit,” and eliminate or reduce energy credits and subsidies, sending energy costs soaring, particularly in red states."

Cannabis use may double the risk of dying from heart disease and increase the risk of stroke by 20%, according to a global review of data. A linked editorial said the analysis “raises serious questions about the assumption that cannabis imposes little cardiovascular risk”.

Pretty wild how a guy who, shoots four prominent people (killing 2), plus more attempted and plans to hurt far more, was able to be safely and humanely arrested.

But a nervous Black person can be killed by cops over a traffic ticket for doing nothing threatening at all and it's just Tuesday.

@QasimRashid

@nullagent What's more wild is that there are A LOT of people that don't see a problem to begin with.

They are more shocking to me than the racist pigs being the racist, violent, scum we all know they are as a whole.

@nullagent @QasimRashid It was only two people who died. One lawmaker (the female) and her husband; also, their dog had to be euthanized from its injuries sustained in the attack.

Agree with you on the rest though. Absolutely. The racism is insane.

@nullagent@partyon.xy

One hundred and fifty years of coincidences. Thats the only explanation.

@QasimRashid

@nullagent @QasimRashid

If I understand correctly, US cops systematically kill Black people over traffic infractions, while consistently managing to capture White shooters alive.

That's pretty wild indeed.

@nullagent @QasimRashid

White dumbass cops, some military too love to maim or kill persons of color, or those from other cultures, protect their fellow corrupt discriminating white friends at all cost with complete disregard to law and society.

@nullagent @QasimRashid And was known to be carrying a weapon, had a vehicle full of weapons including assault rifles and had already exchanged fire with police. And, they knew he'd gone home, where he potentially had access to more guns/ammo.

@nullagent @QasimRashid Sounds like he was armed when he was arrested, too:

"Where he was ultimately taken into custody was in a field," Bruley said, adding that Boelter was armed at the time.
