New book on Russo-Ukrainian war coming in 2023

Btw, if #Russia were even a tiny bit interested in real Ukrainian neutrality, rather than in a defenseless #Ukraine as a vassal, it could've offered to withdraw from Donbas/Crimea b/n 2014-22 in exchange for Ukraine renouncing its NATO aspirations and Ukraine would've prob agreed. Ru never made even a whiff of an offer in that direction. Because it wants to conquer Ukraine piece by piece if it cannot do it in one take.

Some repeat the mantra that there's no European security architecture w/o #Russia in it. They never offer any deeper justification than "Ru is too big/won't change". Having a determined bully who wants to control half of Europe doesn't mean #Europe has to submit; the rational thing is to isolate the bully. There's no Eu security architecture with *this* Ru in it; only a replay of the Soviet Bloc vassaldom". If a different Ru comes along, we could carefully re-engage.

The good news: #EuropeanCouncil greenlights accession negotiations for #Ukraine and #moldova Phew.

The bad news: #EU released 10bln to #Orban so he wouldn't block the decision. He didn't vote for, but was absent as the rest voted unanimously. Expect more Orban blackmail in the future.

#Russiaukrainewar

#Putin repeated today for the umpteenth time that he doesn't intend to negotiate or stop the war until he has achieved his Day 1 goal, which is total control of all of #Ukraine but I'm sure someone is writing another "let's make #Zelenskyy negotiate" piece right this second

Same people who think #NATO expansion caused Ru aggression call on #Ukraine to give territorial concessions. Why would taking Ukr territory assuage Ru’s purported fear of NATO? Is a hypothetical NATO base in Donbas scarier than one in Dnipro? If #Russia were afraid of NATO,it would’ve offered a while ago to return Ukr territory in exchange for concessions fr *NATO*, for e.g. reject Fi/Swe. Instead, Ru left its NATO borders defenceless and insists it needs to have more of Ukr.

When Western journalists consistently want to talk about the "challenges facing #Ukraine vs. "Russia's plans and next steps," almost 2 yrs into Ru's supposed 3-day takeover of Ukraine, you realize how deep the "#Russia is unbeatable" assumption goes. Very deep.

#UkraineMustWin

The "#Ukraine should just surrender already" camp in the West is getting bolder and louder. But they're overestimating their reach/ability to convince. They'll lose too, just like the "great #Russia they admire/fear so much.

#Ukraine

The only party that would benefit from freezing the war is #Russia. Both #Ukraine and its allies in Europe/North America would lose from giving Ru a chance to consolidate its gains and prepare for yet another round of imperial expansion. Let's avoid this grave mistake

#Russiaukrainewar

For the West, most compelling reasons to help #Ukraine are strategic, not humanitarian. #Russia should lose #Russiaukrainewar because it’s aggressive in Europe and seeks to undermine democracy and intl law. It’s smart to prioritize Ru defeat over less strategically important crises. Emphasis on the humanitarian aspect leads to hypocrisy charges.
