@calvusrex I both believe in and agree with what you're saying because inherently AI isn't a problem it's the fact that it's being used to steal copyright and locked behind paywalls for most people. From most AI companies to be as good as it could be that's why I'm designing it to be free open source and constitutional, so everyone gets a say in it. Just gotta get new hardware.

@perdidonavida I think that's a very well thought out point. I can agree that people tend to abdicate thinking to AI when it's incomplete and certainly imperfect. I have that issue with how people use AI as well, but that isn't inherently AI's fault.

@jaystephens @Walruths @IT_SME @sstendahl I'm with you on both counts. It's a tough dicotomy to handle. Knowing it's right to show them a better path, but also not wanting to ruin the better place with those kinds of people. It's very strange to hold those truths together. Definitely a dialectic situation.

How would the #fediverse feel about #AI if the compute was shared, but local first, #decentralized and most importantly imo #FOSS genuinely curious if people hate ai because of the structure of it or what it is?

Data centers create real jobs.
Construction. Electrical. HVAC. Water treatment
At the same time AI is displacing workers across sectors those jobs don't replace
And resource consumption isn't as consistent on a home pc
A home PC pulls maybe 750 watts
A single data center pulls tens of megawatts continuously
The jobs created are real
The jobs displaced are real
The resources consumed are real
Pretending otherwise doesn't help anyone figure out what to do about it

Hopefully soon I'll be able to start moving forward again with the build. I can't say for sure, but it seems like the hardware blocker should be removed soon. If that's the case well I'll be a happy man... Making a happy commitment to the #FOSS community with a new #Decentralized project. I'm pretty stoked to get back to after months of no hardware. Feels good to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
