So there's a reason `nerdfight.online` is single user, I'm still working out the right architecture for everything and I need to re-build it. Whoops.

When I was in college i got into flight simulators for a minute, and discovered there was a whole community of people who roleplay as air traffic controllers on a multiplayer version of MS flight simulator. There was specialized radar and comms software and you could sign up for classes where you learned real-world lingo and techniques for directing air traffic. I tried it for a couple weeks and realized it was basically "having a stressful job" as a hobby

anyway now I'm a moderator on mastodon

The idea that Mastodon onboarding *should* be hard, that it's *right* for it to be hard, is literally just elitism

Please re-toot. Nobody knows me here 🙏😂
Do any of my #crochet people out there have a favorite brand of yarn for #amigurumi? I have a project coming up that's going to need a few different shades of beige.

Think I've found a data set of annual shipping import/export trading figures broken down to a really really granular level

I'm not really sure though

It's just a set of quay/value pairs

I have just learned that I have been laid off, three days before Christmas.

I have a lot of emotions right now, but instead of airing those out I'm focusing in a more positive direction. I am looking for a full-stack engineer or back-end/front-end developer position in the information security space. I am proficient in Python, JavaScript (React, Node, Express mainly) and am getting proficient in Rust. I have my GIAC Reverse Engineering Malware (GREM) certification and am comfortable in a systems engineering role with Rust or C/C++ as well.

Contract work welcome, full-time employment preferred. Appreciate the support and hope your holidays are off to a better start than mine!

I have rewritten a toot 5 times trying to explain how my lack of income prevents me from enjoying Xmass fully.

But instead of giving you a sob story about my life, I want to tell you this...

If you have someone in your life who is struggling financially, just take them aside and let them know that you love them, and that you understand. Let them know that their value is in who they are, not how much they can buy.

Ask them what you can do to help them have a merry Xmass.

It'll mean a lot.
