He/His/They/Theirs (I'm a man who strongly approves of singular they)

@futzle which is approximately Merwlllmba, about 2.5 syllables

The use of “hallucinate” is a stroke of true evil genius in the AI world.

In ANY other context we’d just call them errors & the fail rate would be crystal clear.

Instead, “hallucinate” implies genuine sentience & the *absence* of real error.

Aw, this software isn’t shit! Boo’s just dreaming!

@platypus my bank used to allow custom security questions, so I set one to "what are you wearing?" and the answer to "that's very inappropriate please transfer me to your manager". the first time an customer service rep encountered it they couldn't stop laughing and had to actually transfer to a coworker to complete the call.

The whole LLM as a service business model has a fundamental flaw to it. The cost of operating the data centres is an order of magnitude higher than the profit.

But if models get efficient enough to bring the costs down, then they become efficient enough to run locally. So, either it’s too expensive to operate, or nobody will want to use it as a service because running your own gives you privacy and flexibility.

The fact that investors don't get this is frankly incredible.

AI rapidly increases speed of the first 90% of software development. But still, you’ll have to do the remaining 90% yourself.
At the Bene Gesserit Pain Box Factory we’re partnering with Anthropic to provide revolutionary AI-powered nerve stimulation. As the leaders in tech that makes people want to cut their limbs off rather than continue, it was a perfect synergy
This is REALLY important. The main thing that makes it hard to achieve integrated nature/green in cities isn’t the density of buildings or the density of people — it's the density of cars. And the better designed your density of people and buildings is, the fewer cars you need or want.

@jakecoppinger I've asked the ACMA what the options given to listeners was.

I don't listen to podcasts on Apple Music.

I do use Apple Podcasts.

In "hapless media regulator" corner this week... the ACMA has just released this media research, which claims that 13% of all Australian podcast listeners use Apple Music each week to listen to podcasts (p18).

That's an impressive figure, particularly since there aren't any podcasts in Apple Music.
