@nicklockwood Sure, there were certainly other factors. My theory here is that sticking to a safe premise is the easiest and cheapest thing for studios to control.
@nicklockwood GoT did not have a safe ending that made everyone happy and I do think that was a significant part of the negative reception.
I'd say the finale was pretty satisfying, just like the rest of season 5, but also played it very safe. I feel like GoT season 8 has made it so we won't see particularly interesting conclusions of any big budget series for a long time.
Still tired from my trip but dragged myself to the cinema to watch the Stranger Things finale.
