Be kind. Have fun.

I ride mountain bikes, hike, take photos, brew beer, distill spirits, design databases, and grow gourmet mushrooms.

For some crazy reason, Lizzie loves me.

I am very (very) grateful to be alive.

I have no gods.

Turrbal country.

“The true con artist doesn’t force us to do anything; he makes us complicit in our own undoing. He doesn’t steal. We give. He doesn’t have to threaten us. We supply the story ourselves. We believe because we want to, not because anyone made us. And so we offer up whatever they want—money, reputation, trust, fame, legitimacy, support—and we don’t realize what is happening until it is too late.”

My first post here on Mastodon! So this is my #introduction. I'm so done with Twitter. Ugh. Anyway, I'm Bob, and I'm a photographer & a fine art framer living in Reno, Nevada (USA). I've been running Linux since the late '90s. I started with SuSE Linux 6.0 in 1998! All photos are mine & edited using Darktable on a Linux box. Here's a photo I made of Bonsai Rock, Lake Tahoe, Nevada in 2017. #linuxphotography
I've never been happier to have absolutely no plans for the weekend - I may not even leave my apartment other than to the back porch until Tuesday.

@lmc this sounds delightful. Congratulations!

Bertrand Russell wrote "The conception of duty, speaking historically, has been a means used by the holders of power to induce others to live for the interests of their masters rather than for their own." (In Praise of Idleness).

Enjoy your freedom, Lisa.

Fresh water....just falls out of the sky. Have you ever stopped to think how awesome rain is?

@grumpysmiffy Hi Matthew, thanks for the kind words, and sorry for the slow reply. Mum's condition has taught us to take the good with the bad. Sometimes it's good and that's wonderful, sometimes it's not so good, and that's ok.

She has spent her life loving us. This whole episode has shown me how solid that love has been.

@earthmothering9 Thanks. I'm grateful to have her in my life.
@JoePeeters thanks. Dementia is horrible, but it's comforting to know that love can transcend it.

Mum doesn't remember many things. If I'm lucky, some days she might remember my name.

She looked at me this morning and said "Once you were a little boy, but now you're grown up. The time went so quickly."

Then she added, "When you start out, life is nice. Then it gets hard. And now... it's beautiful."

I was surprised and asked "why is it beautiful?"

She said "Because I have this beautiful man, and I have so many people who love me. It's just beautiful!"

I was gobsmacked. How can someone who has lost large parts of her cognitive ability still have such a large ocean of meaning in her life?

I teared up. So did Dad. I know Mum has lived a good life because even though she has lost a lot, and has been through a lot, what remains is simply... love.

We're so fortunate to have her in our lives.
