December 3, 2022 - Ottawa, Ontario - Canadian Human Rights Commission On this International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Acting Chief Commissioner of the Canadian Human Rights Commission, Charlotte-Anne Malischewski, together with the Accessibility Commissioner, Michael Gottheil, issues the following statement:
Too many families are denied even a glimmer of justice when loved ones are killed by police/prisons. If there's a "bright" side in any of this it's watching a community of moms come together and fight for their babies. It's meeting the folks who stand alongside them without fear.

I truly believe today's decision reflects what families can do when they have support + backing within the adversarial, colonial legal system. A teeny tiny step and an important affirmation Jared was murdered by the RCMP – which his loved ones knew + felt without an IIO report.
