@Mwenyi Lovely list! Dunno if you're interested, but I thought of it because I saw ifa, palo, Santeria, and voudou--

There are a couple of books I love on rootwork/ hoodoo/conjure (which is an AfAm derivative, similar to voudou, Santeria, etc.):

Old Style Conjure by Starr Casas
Working Conjure by Hoodoo Send Moise

It's how my practice is mostly based, also coming from a heavily Christian family (southern baptists tho)

I want to make it clear that I'm not proselytising here. It's not how spirituality works. But as a black person who comes from a catholic family that does not discuss anything ancestral I had nowhere to turn to. So this thread is for those who don't know where to start safely.

The lists are not exhaustive, just enough for you to carry on on your own.

5. SOCIAL MEDIA

On twitter, @kukundabula A must follow. Everyone else talks spirituality but they don't go in the way he does. If you're LGBTQ+ and trying to reconcile this with your spirituality, you may find a personal interest in his posts.

I follow others on twitter but tbh if you're looking to understand and learn some things, I feel that on that platform he's pretty much the only one I know who's doing the things.

pt.2

(uku)Pahla = talking to the ancestors (not the same as praying)
ubungoma = refers to traditional religion in South Africa
Gogo = title of a priest whose dominant ancestor is a woman
Mkhulu = title of a priest whose dominant ancestor is a man
amathwasa = initiates
impande = spiritual school lineage
Thokoza = greeting that is specifically used when adressing a priest or someone's ancestor (even if the person is not initiated).

I posted a lot of South African things. I think I need to provide a glossary of sorts.

Sangoma = traditional priest & diviner
Gobela = initiating priest
Ukuthwasa = initiation
Ephelweni = where you go to initiate
(Ama) dlozi/ badimo = ancestors / spirits
Mngui = ancestral family spirits
uMndiki = oldest blood ancestors linked to nature spirits
umNdau = water ancestors or spirits
IsiThunya = spirit of prophecy - christians call it the holy spirit
