Yesterday I took a short trip to NYC, where I lived for eight years. This was, unbelievably, my first time back since 2017. Walking out of the subway in midtown felt like coming home.
I bought three of these bird ornaments on clearance from W*lmart last year, and they truly embody my design aesthetic, which is sparkly feathers. šš

Preordering books is amazingānot only because you forget you do it, and when it shows up, itās like an early Christmas present for yourself. But also because it helps the creators, telling publishers that, hey, you are super excited about this authorās or illustratorās work, and you canāt wait to see more.

I picked up this book a while ago (#TBR š¬), and the word āserendipityā on the cover caught my eye last night. The word was coined in a letter about a half-blind mule. "Serendip" is an old name for Sri Lanka, the setting of a fairy tale the letter writer mentioned.
It certainly feels like a happy accident for me to have found a community on that bird site, and while I'm sad to lose it, I hope to find a similar feeling on this site.
