Small instance looking for 4 video creators.
Hi, I’m Mr. Funk E. Dude, long time citizen of the Fediverse, and new PeerTube instance owner.
My instance, https://dudelike.wtf is only a few months old, but I’ve been creating videos on the Fedi for years. It’s my hope to create an instance of video creators who want to add to the growing volume of PeerTube videos with well thought out and purposeful videos.
This instance will be for those who make videos about whatever comes to their mind and don’t want to be stuck to a specific genre. It’s not a tech, or art, or “how to” instance. It’s a “What do you have to share that’s meaningful” instance. At least that’s what I’d like it to be. What we don’t want to be is a place for people to show vacation videos, trips to the Zoo, or their clubs special events.
With that in mind, I’ve opened my instance to limited registration so that we can find at least 4 video creators looking to add their voices to PeerTube and the larger Fediverse. Since I’m using managed hosting, that means that the instance will have backups and someone there who knows how to fix things whenever they break down. This also means that storage, is at a premium. Because of this, I’ve had to limit a few things.
New users will start with 7 gigs of storage. I know that doesn’t seem like a lot, but it’s more than you think. All of my videos take up just about a little more than that right now. That’s because we encode the videos to 480p and 1080p only. This helps to reduce storage and since the majority of people these days watch on their phones or tablets, most people will never notice or care.
The good news is that I’m willing to increase a users storage according to need and availability. Essentially, if a video creator is serious about the videos they make, and they’re doing the work, they’ll get more space to grow.
We have access to live streaming with chat as well, but it must be scheduled and limited to 3 hours at a time.
So if you’re looking for a small instance to join, and you like to make videos with intent and purpose, I invite you to request an account on my instance. If you do, please let me know in the request what type of videos you plan on making. (it helps if you already have examples)
And please don’t get bent out of shape if you get rejected. I have to be selective right now. If you’re looking for an instance that will take anyone, then there are plenty others out there that will.
