I've used Gmail since the beta, sometime around June of 2004. For better or worse, serious inertia set in. No real correspondence happened with the email after a certain point- it was just a bellybutton to use with various online services, and I ended up getting an Android phone so it just sort of fit in.
Fast forward to now. Astronomical levels of enshittification have since occurred to Gmail, and this last bit of bullshit is the final dookie-nail in the coffin. Features that have worked without Gemini are now being gated behind Google's absolutely dogshit mass-market generative model. And while I probably won't get comments about it, yes, I understand the business model behind Gmail.
A system I've used for around half of my life is now not worth using, and will probably not be worth using again. There's a weird sense of attachment that I can't shake, but the service now feels worse than it did in beta.
Time to stop being lazy and move off.
