Renewable developer, exDNO power systems engineer (senior authorised to 33kV), still design & build (private) networks. Developing hydrogen project (100% RES elec) for heating & transport (UK). Trying to talk sense to Eu regarding Eelectricity Market Reform, so far without much success.
@CarbonBubble this is entirely normal, given that the EU & member states are run mostly for the benefit of neo-liberal retards - aka neo-libtards. Given this, govs are obliged to focus on roads (privaet) & not rail - public infra. Good example in Belgium. Gov throwing Euro500m @ a motorway viaduct - but have forzen funding to finish the RER in Brussels. Pathetic & rpedictable stuff.
@waltbaldwin The LA basin is very roughly 260km2. If we assume that 50% can take PV (not unreasonable) then that is about 48TWh/yr. But it is exactly where you want it - next to the A/C & it would reduce the need to build RES a long way away. This begs the question: hom much PV on roofs now? Close to zero if Santa Monica is to be a guide. Lost opportunity, but I guess the power companies are unhappy people taking a DIY approach to elec.
@janrosenow "the existing evidence" - go on don't be coy tell us all about this "existing evidence".
@MichaelEMann @CBCNews "unusual heat & drought" - one cannot imagine how this could possibly lead to wild fires (irony btw). The ones that claim other reaons - imbeciles - dime a dozen.
@janrosenow Missing from this is the capacity of LV networks (i.e. the cable the runs past your house) to support a doubling of load - which is what a heat pump does & is a rarely considered problem (I'm an ex-DNO engineer btw). As it now stands, most LV networks can support a HP penetration of perhaps 20 - 30% (& let's not forget EV charging as well). Hps, step in the right direction, but you ain't going to get to circa 50% without H2/Fuel cells. This is not a PoV btw - it is reality.
@CarbonBubble I am so incredibly shocked by this - who could have possibly imagined such a thing. Yes, banksters doing what they always do - if unsupervised.
@energymonitorai "raise the ceiling price for auctions" eh? Usually auctions have a fixed volume with indicative pricing. Most of them are usually highly competitive (although Germany has had some problems) and deliver results close to LCOEs. Raise ceiling prices - why?
