Absolutely not.

This is likely an automated message, as it came hot on the heels of what was suspiciously like an automated phone call. But having both pretend to be personal messages from a real live person is SUPER annoying.

Candidates, don't EVER do this.

I really loathe SMS-based multi-factor authentication. It is not secure. It is a PITA. Use a real MFA like something TOTP-based, FIDO2, PassKey, or many others. SMS is dumb, insecure, and aggravating.
What does it say that the majority of spam I now receive comes from Gmail accounts?

So…there is a concerted campaign, with Musk as its mouthpiece, to discredit Signal and get people to switch to Telegram. It’s disinformation, but there’s also useful information in it. The useful information is that a hideous, powerful, right-wing crank — or whoever’s yanking his chain — really, really wants people to use Telegram.

We’ve long known Telegram’s security is weak. But now, in light of this new information, we should move forward assuming that Telegram is actively compromised.
