Think there’s a fair bit of Kahneman System 1 thinking when it comes to drugs tbh
Many meds used in anaesthetics / crit care have an NNT/NNH of 1, it’s usually just a matter of dose
However, most drugs are not like that, they merely adjust the odds of an outcome by a small fraction (either way), if at all
Against a high certainty outcome, a shot in the dark based on an obscure pharmacological mechanism is usually a very long shot indeed
