@DistroJunkie @miwilc I wanted to use Twidere because it can access Twitter and Mastodon at the same time. And on this phone you really need to use as less apps as posible to make it usable at all. So... Thank you for sugestions! :-)
@miwilc Hmm... I don't wish to root this phone... I'm afraid I'll break something :-)
But, what can I do about it next? How do I log in then? Do I remove built in browser so it needs to go to external one or what?
@miwilc The problem _is_ that I can't upgrade. This phone actually shipped way back in 2012 with Gingerbread! I'm stuck on 4.1.2 and can't find a way to upgrade WebView.
It seems like I can't get this Mastodon instance to work on my phone with Twidere client. I get "Couldn't establish secure connection" error on login. Is there a way to get around this? I use Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean. That might be an issue, because the app probably uses the built-in browser to go to the sign in page....
Hello, Mastodon! Long time no see... :-)
@dpreacher But, again, I can call, text messages on really tiny keyboard, Gmail works, YouTube works, Viber works, I use Evernote to sync notes and it has Browser that is good enough to load the weather website I use. (We never update our website design in our country, if we do, that's very rare.) So, I have a "fully functional" phone for basic uses. And the most important app I use is the Task Killer. Yeah.
@dpreacher If you by "Why" mean why Mastodon doesn't work, then that's because this phone was low-end when it came out. It has 120MB of storage for downloaded and upgraded apps, for photos you need an SD card, it has about 300MB of RAM and 600 or 800MHz processor. And runs Android 2.3.3, so there is no Mastodon client that works, or the browser that can load Mastodon at all!
@dpreacher If you by "Why?" mean why I use this phone, because I don't have any newer one that does work. I have a "graveyard" of phones in my drawer and 95% doesn't work. This is the only one that does, HTC Wildfire S.
@dpreacher Yep. That 'Pixel 2' that you're looking at. :-)
@dpreacher Since I got that phone, when my old one died (like, completely), my social media life was paused for a little while. And mastodon doesn't load on that thing. Even Twitter barely works.
