@joshsusser When I got introduced to Apache in 2001, I distinctly remember that "a patchy web server" was the origin story, also telling us Germans how to pronounce it correctly. Funny enough, I completely missed this patched origin story later on.

But anyway, the name's been rubbing me the wrong way for a long time, too, ever since becoming more aware of what appropriation is and how it works, and I'm really glad about this intiative. So thank you @Jeremiah for posting this. Let's support Natives in Tech's cause every way we can!

@acat afaik the proper response to "see you later, alligator" is "for a while, crocodile" (unsolicited infodump: this seems to have been "youth language" in the 1950s, and there's a song by Chuck Berry(?) with said title).

I'm sorry to not be able to provide more cringy goodbye phrases.

@Kiki Word!

Never having been on twitter, some of these posting behaviors are actually new for me. So I'm still realizing what exactly it is that "has changed" since Muskageddon, but "lecturing" posts are definitely part of it. It seems that the posters' mindset has changed from "we're a community dedicated to learning collectively" to "I talk to a room full of strangers who, most likely, have never given a thought about my pet peeve."

However, as opposed to @Juju and @draco, I've found block+unfollow the best strategy so far. The people I do follow tend to boost interesting stuff, but I have stopped following "celebrities" and "net activists" in particular (two months ago, I wouldn't have known what/who that's supposed to be). I have started to deny follow requests, because I follow back to know who reads my toots. And being on a small(er), well-moderated instance helps, too, in that people here are mostly themselves, so it lowers the pressure to perform.

@ancient_catbus Speaker of the Fediverse? Regularily checking in with the architect Miss Mosstodon?
@eldang let me know if it works. At least you can still dial, then. And to be honest, for what other purpose does ond need a smartphone at all?!
@ancient_catbus why not John Mastodon?
@eldang if the phone's attached to a cable for too long, it downgrades itself to landline functionality, turning into a dumb dial phone. Since those usually don't have batteries, the charging function is disabled as well. The battery now serves as a simple weight, adding to the impression you're dealing/dialing with a "quality" device. You can still use the phone for calls, once you figured out how to push buttons or turn the dial plate.

@calcifer In that case, I would highly recommend @marthawells' Murderbot series:

Not being ace/aro myself, I know that a lot of people on that spectrum find themselves resembled in the novels, and reading them, I can totally see why. (And besides, they are just great reads!)

@imyxh spoon, of course! It's like the Swiss army knife among eating utensils: eat soup, mashed stuff, everything chunky, spread stuff on bread... but also, dig yourself out of jail, assist in mental health, and even kill someone:
