A small set of people are merging changes to various Linux components to make sure every application knows your birth date.

This is being done rapidly by people with questionable justifications and being merged with no youth and few marginalized people involved.

Uh, yes? Uniform implementation makes future grabs easier to conceive and therefore more likely.

As engineers, we all like nice, uniform solutions. Why? Easier to build on top of. Which in this case is something virtually no one wants.

How about Jitsi? I don't use it at the moment but I helped my father test it out. He set it up for my step-mother's book club meetings.
