#procreate added a new gesture to hide or minimise the UI, and i keep activating it by accident.

i wish i knew what it was, so that I could turn it on more often

New rule, if you have a lot of disposable income, you don't get to tell me what's too expensive

sometimes i really value having a cynical nature, it helps when everyone is sipping the kool aid and spouting off hyperbole.

but other times it does get in the way of just enjoying simple nice things.

Burnout isn't just working too hard; it's the result of continually discarding your own needs in service of others.

That often happens in the context of work, but it can also happen in the context of home life or friendships.

It's okay if you're not in the mental health space to help someone you love at a specific moment. You might be too depressed, too exhausted, too overwhelmed, too anxious, whatever the unaddressed need. You cannot be everyone's hero all the time. That's hard to wrap our hearts around because we want to be there for everyone. But we need to be there for ourselves before we can do that. It's ok to take time to heal and recover.

@NanoRaptor cycling by the river and a crow landed on the bike path in front of me, jumped in my way when i tried to go around so i stopped.

it jumped up and down until i dismounted and followed it to a nearby road where some of it's friends were squawking, all clustered around an endangered species of tortoise that couldn't mount the kerb to get to the river.

picked up the tortoise and walked it to the river, it swam off and the crows happily cawed and then all flew off.

I have a new hobby. You see, our local Lidl is where a lot of the refugees in "temporary asylum accommodation" shop. And they are trying to get food that feels like actual food, in a place where there have been some really nasty xenophobic protests.

The other day it was two guys from South Sudan, and I have never seen two such tall, fine people try so hard to be invisible. But they were staring at the.tomatoes and about to buy the big, pretty, tasteless ones. Very carefully I stood next to them and picked up the small, tasty, same-price-or-cheaper ones and said, "these ones taste better." They heard me, but they weren't going to risk a conversation. So I said, to them, "These small tomatoes taste much better." Now they knew I was definitely talking to them, and having a normal market conversation.

"Better?"

"Yes, better, and not expensive. Sudan?"

"Yes! South Sudan." (Guarded smile)

"Welcome! I'm glad you're here. The fruit is better in South Sudan, isn't it?" (Other people are listening now, and see that these two men are far from home and miss home food, and how can someone like that be scary?)

Now we kept talking around the shop. And they straightened up and stood comfortably, and got better, cheaper food.

So that's my new hobby. Being friendly to refugees buying fruit.

alrighty. starting day 3/5 - the longest and noisiest im gonna have this week.
