Ahoy Kickstarter experts - I made a rookie mistake in setting up my reward tiers - not offering a local option rewards to eliminate the need to ship for local backers.

I'm waiting on an answer from Kickstarter, but it looks like if I want to use their Pledge Manager (which would manage all the tax/VAT stuff), I also have to use it for shipping - which means shipping everything, even rewards for local friends, etc.

Anyone know of any workarounds?

Is there a simple way to deal with the taxes on my own? I have 60 backers, not all of them have physical (taxable) rewards, most in the US, so not insurmountable if I need to deal with that.

One of my side projects is The Histories, a wiki and encyclopedia of wild stories about real people. It's full of immortals, strange historians, mad scientists, and more!

If you haven't read it, you should. Also: consider getting an entry for yourself! #writing

@potterybyosa That is useful to know. Thank you.

A lot of what Americans were told about their government was wrong, i.e., a lie. The president really can do as he pleases most of the time. Oversight is a joke. Guardrails are nonexistent. The government can, is, and will be weaponized against perceived enemies and few of us have any recourse.

It was only a gentleman's agreement to make nice in front of the cameras that kept it from breaking containment.

@mlanger For fuck's sake. I'm fuming on your behalf.

“I mean, your society’s broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No let’s blame the people with no power & no money & these immigrants who don’t even have the vote, yeah it must be their fucking fault.”

Iain Banks: the final interview

Iain Banks died last Sunday, just before the publication of his final novel The Quarry. Last month he talked to Stuart Kelly about writing, politics and all the things still left to do . . .

@APBBlue Thank you! My biggest problem is I'm an impatient glazer and need to learn to let things dry fully before trying to touch them. But I'm super pleased with how these came out, despite my little oopses. :)

The kiln gods were kind today. These are freeform/organic pasta bowls. I have a set of large & small ones I made years ago, but have only recently made some bisque forms I can use to make more.

I played with 2 different colorways. I like both.

@ljwrites As I get older, I appreciate the gifts of changed perspective. I value different things than I did when I was younger. Part of that change stems from knowing there will come a time when the clock runs out.

If I were to become immortal, but not those around me, I'm not sure I could handle the constant loss of loved ones.

Really thought provoking question!
