Pride is a Canadian value that we are proud to honour and celebrate from coast-to-coast-to coast! 🏳️⚧️🇨🇦🏳️🌈
Today is the start of celebrations recognizing Pride Season.
While we focus on celebrating queer and trans joy and resilience, there is still significant work to do to defend and protect our human rights at home & abroad.
Pride is and will always remain a core Canadian value.
This week we met with key national 2SLGBTQI+ national partners, including Egale Canada, Society of Queer Momentum, Pride at Work, Community Based Reaearch Centre, and Fierte Pride.
We are united in supporting Canada’s 2SLGBTQI+ communities to grow, contribute, and thrive! 🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️
Today is the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia.
60+ countries around the world still criminalize LGBTQ+ persons. Rights are being rolled back, including here in Canada and especially in my home province of Alberta.
This is not the promise of democracy but the rise of far right extremism and populism, which poses a pressing threat to human rights, rule of law, and our Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Alberta’s Bill 25 is nothing more than another blatant attempt to try to erase queer and trans persons from public life.
Teachers and students are very creative. They will find ways around this draconian ban, because you can never ban pride or erase 2SLGBTQI+ people.
Today, I asked the Minister of Public Safety how his ministry is addressing the growing concern of youth radicalization in Canada and how they are working with provinces, schools and organizations to support at-risk youth before the are drawn into violent networks.
