Irish queer in Aotearoa.
A couple of years since I left the
#punk scene in the city to try this #off-grid #solarpunk shit in the middle of nowhere while also learning this #parenting lark.

Trying to learn new (to me, but actually very old) skills and figure out how to live my best dynamic equilibrium with this harsh environment.

#MentalHealth and #EDS have huge and constant impacts on my life that I'll likely post about.

Despite only learning it in school, and living on the other side of the world, I am trying to bring my kiddo up with
#gaeilge - the Irish language. I'll hashtag my posts in Irish with the word Gaeilge if you wana filter that out.

I'm not gonna swear AT you, but there will likely be swearing in a shit-tonne of my posts.

I'm not gonna boost or share images without alt-text.

Medical and recreational
#cannabis user, strong #acab sentiments.
Me: aww yeah, I been waiting like a year til my parents got back over here and I had someone who could teach me to drive. I'm 35, it's well past time, I'm SO READY
Dad: ok. It's been a week. Are you ready for your first lesson?
Me: oh yeah. Sure, just... Uh... Let this layer of paint dry and I'm there!
😬
@pkboi yeah, it seems to be slowly sorting itself. Though it took me a half dozen error messages to reply to you (sorry about the double post)
@pkboi you're doing well, it's been 2-3 days for me.

Though the very, very odd post is slowly getting through.

I've another account on Mastodon and know what kinda volume my homepage should be hitting, and it's definitely more than 4 in the last 24hrs.
I think they're on the flight down! They were worried about getting through immigration in time to check in for the last leg (so harsh that they couldn't just transfer the bags through), but that was scheduled for 8 and I haven't had any texts back since I checked in a 8.03.

Squeeee! Parents have touched down in Tāmaki Makaurau!
They left Ireland when I was going to bed 2 nights ago. Still got to get to Ōtautahi, then drive up to the top of The Wai Pounamu to collect a campervan, then they're coming down here to Te Manahuna for the next 3 months!

Pretty exciting to see them, gonna be very different around here for a while.

4 adults to one child is a more manageable ratio
😅
@arth I can't see the other 2 replies cos firefish's having problems loading, but I assume they're saying that they're having the same problem, cos I certainly am
surest way to get some rain and cloud cover in this cursed desert is to harbour ambitions of seeing cool shit in the night sky.

Fuck you, universe
I made a #crochet hat for kiddo's granny, who's currently battling cancer and wow. It's only the 3rd thing I've made, but it feels so good to be able to create a thing that puts such a smile on someone's face.

She has really big hair (the kind that goes up and out, not down), and is super conscious of currently being bald,so the bucket hat is perfect, it's not obvious what way her hair is under it.

Ive been around creative people without ever having the balls to do creation myself for most of my adult life.

This feels good.
☺️
Normally I like some notice before, well, anything happens, but got a last minute request from bestie who lives 7hrs away to come visit for the weekend. Still a couple of hours away now, but she's on her way and I'M SO EXCITED 😆😁
The colours, textures, seasonal changes, smells, shapes, flavours, critters. All so good. Pretty sweet getting glimpses of the world through a kids eyes
