Anydesk , and other remote access services need to be made accountable for the damage their software is causing.
Force log files to be recorded offline giving real locations of first time users.
Maybe if they paid 10% of the money that was lost due to their software they would do something.. assuming they are not so in debt they are still in business.
If you want a senior to avoid scams then help them build a web of people they trust. Make it ok to ask if “is this a scam?”
Scammers target people who are isolated, proud or embarrassed to ask for a second opinion.
Even if that web is other seniors, we can’t spot the trap we are in but have no problems warning others about their traps.
Hardest part of helping people recover from scams is making them understand it is not about intelligence.
We all know when we go see a magician that they are tricking us, but they do it anyway. Our brains have huge holes in our perception and con artist exploit those holes.
So had a tough one today. A client who is a victim of a few scams. The problem is that scammer share contact info.
While fixing the computer will help we need to help them with awareness so they can avoid scams in the future.
