I am a totally blind musician who was born in raised in Utah and now resides in BC, Canada. Interests besides music include reading (scifi-fantasy), creative writing, and whatever I decide will be fun to learn about and/or research at any given moment. I am a firm believer that working together, we can make this a better world for virtually everybody.
TLDR: Looking for a way that isn't Jetpack Social to post automatically to this account when I publish a new blog post to my website but debating on posting manually as well.
Welp, I've been looking into a way to automatically let folks know that I've published a blog post. I had at one point something set up through Activity Hub, but I'm not sure if that's the best way to go because that means another account for folks to follow. Jetpack Social includes images and post content previews and... just ugh, too much clutter! All I want to do is to be able to type something like "new blog post for *insert post date*: Insert Post title - insert post URL. I'm starting to think the best way (perhaps the most satisfying even) will be to just do this manually after I publish a post. Unless somebody has a suggestion, I might just end up doing this the old-fashioned way. This might not be so bad, but I'm still curious if anyone has any ideas because well... slightly lazy.
I was beyond disgusted today to learn that even blindness skills training centers not run/owned/operated by/in bed with the NFB, are forcing their attendees to attend the national summer convention. My disgust is not about my feelings on either NFB or ACB. My issue is with the requirement as it is being used as a measuring stick to determine how well someone is or is not doing in said program.
Going to convention does not make you more or less with it; independent; whatever moronic disability related buzzword you want to assign here.
Yet, these programs are ran by folks who will send the message that someone is a failure if they don’t do this.
IMHO that's all levels of wrong. These centers are extremely dangerous because they completely discount, intentionally and by choice, the fact that many blind people have some level of neurodivergence; some may prefer to call it autism, but my general point is that many of us regardless of what name or disability you want to assign to it, process the world differently and are not going to do well in the sensory overload and over stimulus environment of a blindness convention. And you cannot force and should not force this on anyone.
Bullying someone into going and telling them to suck it up and deal will not fix things. (1/3)
Update: See thread for reference. I managed to customize my site's author link so that it now goes to my About page and displays "Learn more about the author" in what's called the title attribute. This will make it so that screenreaders will show both my name and also speak the phrase "learn more about the author". Sighted users will see the latter phrase when they hover over the text with the mouse. No, I'm not a coder. I use the plugin called Code Snippets and don't have to touch the functions.php file. Keeping in mind I use Generate Press as my theme, I was able to Google how to do this and keep in line with that theme. I used ChatGPT to help me modify the hover text. It took some digging to find the snippet that was meant specifically for Generate Press, and I'm not going to paste the code here, but hey... I got it done. Yaaaay!
Okay techies, particularly those familiar with #screenreaders. I've got my site up, which I've posted presently. I'm running a snippet right now that directs the author link you see for blog posts to my About page. The author link is currently disabled because when moving over it with #JAWS, it shows my name but also says "view all posts by Kira Aeva." Is there a way I can edit this link so that to screenreaders, it justs shows my name, since I'm directing people to my About page and not a post archive? I'm using Generate Press if that helps. #Wordpress #GeneratePress #A11y #Blind #Technology
Hi guys, I'd like to share with you my blog, The Elysium Project. It is definitely a work in progress and only has one post right now, but it's decent enough to start out with that I've finally hit the launch switch. I'm going to eventually get it so that new posts automatically get shared to Mastodon; but for now, it is what it is. Enjoy!

Tyto - a voice-first email app built for blind and VI users, looking for beta testers | AppleVis

Hi everyone, My name is Emmanuel, I'm 17, and I built Tyto, a voice-first email app designed from the ground up for blind and visually impaired users.

Blog home page is all done, including the removal of one widget and the editing of another. I apparently have to research shortcodes again...
Guys, how the crap do I get Chrome to stop autofilling the address bar with search suggestions? I don't mind URL autofill, but the search suggestions thing is breaking my ability to navigate the address bar with arrows. Heeeeelp!
So then. My bansuri will be here on May 21 if all goes well. Before then if it goes better. I'm seriously considering finding some prompts for my blog now that I've got the homepage just about the way I'd like it to be. And Harry Potter 7 full cast is out, yaaaaaaay!
