I build tools for developers and designers: Polypane.app, fixa11y.com, superposition.design and fromscratch.rocks | Electron governance member | He/him

Did you know I wrote a deep dive on offset parents and stacking context? Two essential concepts when it comes to positioning in all three dimensions.

They're hard to debug, but not with Polypane! Contexts are just listed in our elements panel, easy peasy.

I don't often get nerd sniped * but I just added support for line numbers in
@Polypane.app
's elements panel after thinking it impossible for the past 5 years.

* okay like once a week. maybe twice.

Actual svh and safe-area-inset emulation right in Polypane is making such a difference. Truly next-level emulation.

This was a tiny feature to implement, but I get so much value out of color coding the address bar depending on the domain I'm working on.

Tab customization in Polypane: https://polypane.app/docs/tab-customization/

This seems to be a little under the radar, but Chromium 140 ships with (experimental) support for caret-shape! https://polypane.app/experimental-web-platform-features/?search=caretshape

Instead of a regular bar, you can also have a block (like insert) or underscore (great for 2fa codes and other digits)

Google:

Did you know the Polypane Elements panel suggests CSS properties not alphabetically, but based on most common usage?

The weights are static. I should add a usage component to that sorting...

Polypane's rulers are getting a new measuring overlay.

Drag and measure an overlaid rectangle that show its dimensions and the distance to edges. Snaps to your guides while dragging.

Or use it as a selection to screenshot a specific area of the page.

Try it in the upcoming release!

New Chrome logo?

Snuck in a few moments here and there today to see if I could get Widevine (DRM) support in Polypane, like playing music through Spotify.

It works in dev (which is exciting!) but a build might yet give some additional hurdles.
