I guess now the contract is through, I can now tell you that from the start of September I'll be taking up the role of Associate Dean (Research and Innovation) in our School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Law.

I'm really looking forward to working with a phenomenal interdisciplinary team of people and championing our work on people-centred policymaking, community futures, and creative placemaking in places and regions in transition.

Exciting times ahead.

Ending today's reading with this from Arturo Escobar: by splitting cognition and affect and ideas from feelings, in the interest of objectivity, science configured to heightening modernity's tendency towards pathologies of isolation and violence, enabling scientists to get credit for constructive discoveries while avoiding responsibility for destructive ones

My mind just wandered into a future where a call centre office block has become a listed building and English heritage site, tourists wandering around the ruin learning of an industrial past long forgotten.

Plastic telephones scattered on the floor, while a set of untouched biros are strictly preserved. In the corner, there is another smaller room. Inside a large table surrounded by odd looking leather chairs.

The woman next to me remarks how it would be impossible to sit in such a thing and focus. The door designates it "the boardroom". We are quickly shuffled along by the guide and shown the office vending machine and water cooler, described by the guide as the hub for office gossip.

Today I'm weaving ideas together for a new cabaret I'll be giving in a couple of weeks on possibilities.
Good morning from the hedgerow.
I dream with pen and paper.
That's the first lecture where I've had a queue for selfies at the end. #Leadership #CabaretLecture #Inclusion
Interesting contribution on the importance of #play. The one thing as a parent I constantly feel guilty about. The modern world of moving away from families, strict school curricula, long commutes, long hours, disconnected communities, weekend working has placed significant pressures on parents are carers to "deliver" play. To reassert the importance of play we are also going to need to consider the wider #ecosystems and #infrastructure for enabling play, how play is valued, and how #imagination is encouraged in all areas of society. Imagine if play was built into our high streets, residential areas, and workplaces... https://ioi.london/latest/disney-and-the-institute-of-imagination-are-working-together-to-commit-to-playing-together-more/
