@AG7GM I don't read QST nearly as much as I used to. It going digital caused that. Out of sight, out of mind. Never really got into the others. Mad that they don't make them available as PDF so I can put them on my ereader.
Curious how long I'll still have access before they realize hah.
@AG7GM they've been "renewing" my membership for 2 years on a card that has expired and not listed on their website (since they moved membership provider). I'm hoping this continues.
Not sure what is better, getting annoying messages because I'm not a member or getting notifications because they renewed my membership for free?
@n8dmt very cool! I'll check them out.
One of the previous club projects was a DIY buddy pole (my dog ran into it and broke it), but knowing more, and your post, I'm sure i can tweak thr chameleon gear I have to replicate a similar setup or better.
I have to admit, one of the things that I love about field day has nothing to do with the "contest."
In years gone past, with club members that long ago quit, we used to do all kinds of crazy stuff. The club used to setup at a local park, and we used to see what we could do with things like wiring up the fence around the children's park, or even the actual playground equipment itself.
That doesn't even count the attempts to stand up the 160m vertical that was as floppy as a wet noodle.
@n8dmt very cool! Looking forward to seeing this year's setup! I assuming you're doing this under your call sign, and just a bit away from the qth?
Contemplating skipping the club setup next year, doing something similar.

I don't think it'd be past the realm of the impossible to knock something together. A quick digikey search for usb switch has found a number of components that do exactly that. For example the Maxim MAX4906EF or onsemi FSUSB42UMX. Both have a pin for controlling which device has access to downstream USB connections.
Both of these devices are really targeted for use inside handheld electronics like cellphones. But I'd need to build power circuit and associated components as well.
