Yellow Rattle (Rhinanthus minor), the "Meadow Maker". This annual plant is treated as essential to sustain a good flower meadow, it is parasitic on grasses and keeps them in check, allowing the other plants to thrive. However, it needs a prolonged cold spell to germinate (about 3 months between 2 & 6 °C) , so I guess warming winters will put an end to it in the UK. #PlantADay #Botany #Nature #Plant #Wildflower #BloomScrolling
