ChatGPT faces possible designation as a systemic platform under EU digital law | MLex | Specialist news and analysis on legal risk and regulation
OpenAI's landmark chatbot, ChatGPT, is being considered by the European Commission for designation as a systemic platform under the EU Digital Services Act due to its web searching functionality, MLex has learned. OpenAI reported a jump from 11.2 million monthly active EU users in October to 41.3 million in March, nearing the 45 million threshold for such classification. This designation would impose strict regulatory requirements and the payment of a supervisory fee. Questions remain as to whether the designation would solely concern the search feature or the entire chatbot.
