No surprise here.
New research shows that when police get suspected drug abusers treatment rather than arresting them, those people are less likely to abuse drugs or commit drug-related crimes in the future.

Was the lemmyverse/threadiverse aware that Mastodon has been convulsed for the past 2 days?
Since news leaked out 2 days ago that Facebook has approached Mastodon developers and admins - requiring non-disclosure agreements first - the whole microverse (i.e. mastodon / pleroma etc, the micro-blogging part of fedi) has been talking about nothing but that and Facebook’s imminent entry into the fediverse with an as yet not clearly defined entity called Barcelona or p92. This woud be very roughly comparable to Reddit saying they are going to federate with lemmy. Yet here on lemmy I could only find a relatively small discussion. https://kbin.social/m/fediverse/t/62958 [https://kbin.social/m/fediverse/t/62958] Did the lemmyverse not know or just not care that much?
My column about apps on Mastodon appears in print today. I'm told it did very well on the web after publishing on Friday. It got MANY boosts and Favorites here on Mastodon (thank you!), so I assume that's where a lot of traffic came from. It'll be very interesting to see what kind of print-reader feedback I get via email.
This is a gift link to the story, so it should get at least some of you past the paywall if you don't have a subscription. If not, use archive.ph.
@rbreich it's also good to remember that the law of supply and demand is just another neoliberal lie. Prices are not negotiated, they're administered.

GamingOnLinux.com for Linux and Steam Deck gaming! Don't come expecting high-level gameplay or pro stuff. I'm rubbish at games and I have terrible aim, I just like to show you how to get things working and showing things off. People who be rude about it will be removed from commenting on the channel. Disclaimer: Our content is aimed at adults and we often swear in videos where we talk, please keep that in mind. This is a channel for a mature audience. Don’t email me for support! With each new surge of Mastodon users, I feel the need to point out:
1. Welcome!
2. There is a learning curve here, but most people find it short and not very steep. Play around, explore. You'll get it.
3. Lots of people are willing to help.
4. Yes, it's different than Twitter. Sometimes in good ways, sometimes not. But you'll figure it out.
5. With surges especially, things sometimes get slow/glitchy, but they usually get fixed pretty quick.
Be patient.
