Kavanaugh's footnote still has a large loophole in that he specifically limited his guidance to interior immigration stops. Those are interactions that are more than 100 miles from a boarder or coastline. That still leaves many densely populated areas at risk with regard to what would normally be an illegal stop; nearly two thirds of the population according to the ACLU.

Whoa! Slate reported on a footnote from Kavanaugh's concurrence in Trump v. Illinois:

"The Fourth Amendment requires that immigration stops must be based on
reasonable suspicion of illegal presence, stops must be brief, arrests must be based on probable cause, and officers must not employ excessive force.
Moreover, the officers must not make interior immigration stops or
arrests based on race or ethnicity."

It's going to take more than a footnote to salvage any kind of respectable legacy.

@Strandjunker , here in the US, I am thankful for the many companies that put in place policies that helped reduce the spread; allowed work from home, increased sanitation at work, masking unless at desk, increased distance between workstations, increased fresh air circulation, etc. Merchants as well, when the local and state government failed and/or refused to act. It was a group effort. It's unfortunate that some felt their personal liberties had more value than others'.

@geekysteven , yeah, I had a friend of the family who would rage at the idea of food stamps being used to by a treat. It's as though the poor have no right to enjoy themselves until they are no longer poor.

@mcnado, I have trouble imagining this being the last straw that unites Democrats and Republicans. There is already so much in the public domain about Epstein, Trump and released testimony that documents both of their alleged crimes going back decades.. His base really were hoping for something to tie around the necks of Democrats. It was never about the victims and Trump's involvement. Trump is the new Teflon Don.
