I made another new portable air filter design. This one uses a 200mm filter and 10" MERV 13 filters. Per feedback, the stand setup for this allows it to rest flat or at 2 different angles.

@[email protected] the other website relies on the transition costs being high to keep you there. Whether you’re 60 or 20 it will take a little time and effort to transition but it’s worth it.
@nafnlaus @thoughtsofawho @robwiss @Jimrosenthal4 The Dimplex is a noisy beast for little airflow. A configuration using multiple smaller PC fans optimised for low noise levels is very likely to result in better performance and the test chamber results are more trustworthy than many others.
Supplied my Dad with some Arctic P14 PC fans and he built a replacement top for his #CorsiRosenthalBox with them, following @robwiss ’s lead. He reports *much quieter* than the Dimplex 50cm Box Fan (Australia). He’s unsure the airflow seems much greater but I told him I reckon we can trust Rob’s chamber tests (which showed nearly 1000m3/hr CADR). @cleanairstars @Jimrosenthal4
@thoughtsofawho @cleanaircrew @DavidElfstrom @joeyfox @Jimrosenthal4 @robynschofield3 Priority should be given to maintaining the ability to focus on teaching and learning without additional cognitive load of thinking about ventilation or impact of noise levels. The natural ventilation strategy of most Australian classrooms means cost of retrofitting mech vent may not necessarily be the best option.
@thoughtsofawho @cleanaircrew @cleanairstars @joeyfox @Jimrosenthal4 @robynschofield3 Should be CO2 plus PM2.5 monitoring especially if natural ventilation is being relied upon. Then you'll know when filtration is needed - for example when outdoor air quality is poor (bush fires, pollution-trapping temperature inversion)
@syntagmatic Wow!! What a neat idea to illuminate and suspend it from the ceiling!
@Jimrosenthal4 have you seen this?

@robwiss @cleanairstars @Jimrosenthal4 Here is a video comparing noise of the 2 cheap Australian CR boxes mentioned above, and another little build with 2 ‘UpHere’ 5V USB fans and 2x STARKVIND. 2nd device is quieter & has more airflow I think due to a combination of increased filter area (STARKVIND over thinner FORNUFTIG), maybe better fan(I assumed it was just the same as the ‘click’ fan but does seem better), and mounting fan in box to elevate above filters.
First toot …cheap $109 Australian Corsi-Rosenthal Box. Improvement on one I made March’22 with ‘click’ fan & Fornuftig filters. This has a Celsius fan from Target + 4x STARKVIND filters-a few more $$ than last build. Not as good as the PC fan builds of @robwiss et al and I can’t quantify how it compares to similar priced commercial units in Aus. Materials are easy to get from Target & IKEA. Noise is greatly reduced (vid in next toot). @cleanairstars @Jimrosenthal4
