I just learned about the hoatzin, aka stink bird, from the Werner Herzog film “Wings of Hope.” It’s one of those birds that you look at and say, “Yes, that is 100% a dinosaur, no questions, move along.”

“Wings of Hope,” btw, is not about the stink bird, but about Juliane Koepcke, who at 17 was the only survivor of a plane crash in the Peruvian jungle. Throughout the film hoatzins are called “chickens” in translation for some reason.
