Elixir nerd. Obsessive cook. Bakery owner (nokucheese in Mizonokuchi)

I'm from Seattle, but I live in in Kawasaki, Japan. Come fly with me.

Without a miracle, it looks like my shop's journey is coming to an end. Spent a little too much time with an attorney and an accountant today, and after a few silver linings earlier in the week appeared, I'm feeling extra fucked now.

Didn't go out last night but did drink a little too much at home. Panicked my way to the shop in the morning for a call the email said would be "Tuesday" (it'll be Wednesday in Japan). Called my mom, my corporate bank, my corporate accountant. Met with the accountant at my shop to discuss options.

Today's my scheduled day off, but of course I'm "working", and going to a networking event tonight.

But closing the next two days to Deal.

Had an ambition to go drinking tonight (Shibuya? Sangenjaya? Jiyugaoka? Or just the place by my home station) but feeling oddly in limbo. Also weird going "out" drinking alone. I don't like the smell of cigarettes.

A loan that would have allowed me to grow my shop over the next year didn't work out. I meant to apply over a year ago. But changing requirements and 80 hour work weeks meant I never had more than half of my day "off" to try to get there.

Now I'm either going to need to miraculously find a couple dozen friends or family members willing to invest or lend me money (seeking about 12 million yen total), or I'll be abruptly closing shop. Most likely this month.

Well. I'm truly fucked.

Great to eat as the rain is absolutely hammering down tonight.

Persuaded @JasonTrue to let me take the new beef stew with bread and cream cheese dinner plate at #Nokucheese 🍽️ away as takeout! It heated up beautifully.
I'm on a train

https://Salus.jp has a feature on Mizonokuchi restaurants that features my shop. It's a monthly free magazine distributed at train stations operated by Tokyu and just came out today.

Coincidentally, today was the first decent sales day I've had in August. Can't credit the article, alas. The neighboring department store, Marui, was closed, and people who otherwise would have been seeking lunch or cake there stopped at my shop.

β€œWhat next, should I have a computer that eats my dinner and fucks my wife?” is one of those perfect sentences that just sticks in your head
