I have really conflicting feelings about #worldcup2022. I love football but can’t overlook the abuse of human and migrant rights in Qatar.
The brave leadership shown by the Iranian football team today, refusing to sing the national anthrm and post match comments have reassured me that I can simultaneously support football and stand up for human rights.
We need a more humane approach to refugees and people seeking asylum. For a start, ill timed, stressful letters need to stop being sent out on mass.
“The important thing to remember here is the people who received this letter are people who have been subject to Australia's cruel offshore processing regime, so have spent up to ten years in detention & were transferred to Aust for medical treatment.”
