Last #winter my hands were numb from the freezing rain as I hung our #Christmas lights and set up the decorations. This winter I’m sweating while I hang them in shorts and sandals.
What a difference a season makes!

Okay this essay (which I’m just now seeing a year later) is kinda blowing my mind. I remember being taught the standard story about the 1876 election’s aftermath & had no idea it was a myth based on such thin support.
It’s that time of year! It might be easy to end the first half U.S. survey with the “Compromise of 1877,” but that compromise is a myth. @[email protected] and I wrote about why last year for the @[email protected] @[email protected] https://www.washingtonpost.com/outlook/2021/10/08/electoral-count-act-is-broken-fixing-it-requires-knowing-how-it-became-law/
I agree with part of this thread from @drvolts https://journa.host/@drvolts/109406260169526045
#SecondAmendment sanctuary jurisdictions aren’t good, especially when authorities refuse to enforce policies like red flag laws that can stop harm before it occurs & don’t rely, like traditional gun laws, on problematic aspects of the criminal legal system.
I’ve even written about how red flag laws can be life-saving w/out running afoul of due process: https://www.virginialawreview.org/articles/firearms-extreme-risk-and-legal-design-red-flag-laws-and-due-process
But…
RT @[email protected] The Colorado Springs shooter had threatened to kill police. He was a textbook case to have his guns taken away under the state's red flag law. So why didn't it happen? 1/ A THREAD on the growing crisis of "2nd Amendment Sanctuaries" https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-news/colorodo-red-flag-law-shooting-colorodo-springs-1234635625/ 🐦🔗: https://twitter.com/ChrisMurphyCT/status/1596172120975106050
In this post at Duke’s Second Thoughts blog, I highlight developments in the lawsuit to get guns on the University of Michigan’s campus.
As I note here, the concurrence in the case gives more reason to be concerned about how judges are applying Bruen’s history-only test to #SecondAmendment challenges
