Not a good pic but there's 2 hummingbirds in close proximity. This is weird w/o a fight & seconds later they did. The 1 at upper L attacked the one at lower R flying into it with an audible THWACK, tiny body to tiny body. They then chased through the airspace of the yard, over here low (THWACK), over here high (THWACK), now back (THWACK), now around & around way high (THWACKITY-THWACK-THWACK), before 1 chased off the other to drink at the feeder, the objective of the struggle. #birdsofmastodon

The tree at right has been a favorite hunting perch for a Merlin, a small variety of Falcon. It hunted there from last Fall through the Winter and into early Spring, then left for a time, now it's back. I can watch it hunt from my kitchen. Being a bird nerd in the Pacific NW has often meant enduring cold, wind, and rain, so a warm, dry ringside seat for the local raptor is something I can be thankful for. Down with Colonialism, Revisionist Whitewashed History, etc., but Gratitude has its place.
